Congratulations to us! After careful review, and with a recommendation from Staples associate Rodger Stephens, Girls Empowered Mentored & Supported has been awarded funding from the Staples Foundation in support of our commitment to improving the local community aligns with Staples' goal of enriching the areas where our associates and customers live and work.
This funding is being provided to you as part of 2 Million & Change, a program supported by Staples Foundation that is designed to give $2 million per year to non-profit organizations that support the Foundation’s mission and are nominated by Staples associates. We believe that the best way to give back to our local communities is to give our associates a voice and let them choose.
Girls Empowered Mentored & Supported (G.E.M.S) Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides mentoring, workshops and support to assist middle and high school girls in the Metropolitan Atlanta area. G.E.M.S. Programs will offer commitment, encouragement and strength to empower our young ladies.
"Our Mission is to assist girls age 10 to 17 deal with life-changing experiences. We believe mentoring relationships in girls-only environments develop knowledge and power. Our Goal is to support and inspire girls through counseling, educating, and promoting self-awareness."
Girls who are overcoming stressors in their lives, such as poverty, discrimination, abusive situations, addictions, unstable homes and academic life are the primary focus of G.E.M.S. The mentoring system we provide fosters positive changes through goal setting, self-discipline, skill development and friendship.
G.E.M.S. will focus primarily on middle and high school youths; it is projected that within three years, 50% of the system’s students will be in middle school. This age group is particularly problematic and a perfect time for mentoring to be effective. The focus is slightly different at each level but the goal remains the same, empower girls to make positive changes in their lives. G.E.M.S. partners with local school districts, businesses, churches and other youth services agencies to help young women grow and succeed. We provide training to other non-profit organizations, businesses and other youth services agencies. If you have any questions or would like to obtain our services, or volunteer, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or register on our contact us page.
